Ukiah’s official rainfall year ended with 24.96 inches for 1963-64, the lowest locally in more than a decade. Fire Department records show 44.45 inches for 1962-63, about 20 inches above this season’s total. Seasonal figures since 1953-54 vary, with 24.96 inches marking the trough among listed years.

Cologne tragedy: nine-year-old dies in school arson attack
Ingeborg Hahn, aged 9, dies from burns in Cologne after a maniac with a flame thrower set fire to a Roman Catholic school on June 11. Walter Seifer, 42, a demented veteran, killed two teachers and sprayed 28 children before police shot him. Seifer died later from poisoning and a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Felony Driving Charge Lodged Against Ira Miranda
A complaint charging felony drunk driving was issued by the district attorney against Ira James Miranda, 31, of 14 Lewis Lane Ukiah. Miranda was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after his car rammed a waiting vehicle at the Talmage crossing on June 19. Injured were Warner Diggs, 17, Hopland, a passenger, and Richard Jackson, 17, Talmage, the driver. Miranda was released on a 1650 dollar bond.
