Beofalo herd siege frames Ukiah legal clash on Highway 101

At EuroPacific of California headquarters three miles south of Ukiah an improvised standoff formed as sheriff and district attorney representatives argued law over 125 beefalo. A writ sought $17 000 and the sale of 100 animals was blocked by a federal bankruptcy restraining order. The herd remained under guard while litigation continues.

Ukiah Wildcats Band to Perform Nonstop 30 Hour Marathon

Planners Deny Auto Repair Shop Permit in Residential Block

City planners denied James R. Gowan a use permit to open an automotive repair shop at Freitas and South Oak Streets citing incompatibility with nearby apartments and upcoming housing. Also approved a variance for Merle Orchard and a law office conversion, while Steven B. Redding received a CM zone auto body permit. Robert Zook listed as applicant.

Former Prime Minister Eden Dies in Sleep at 79

London reports former Prime Minister Anthony Eden died in his sleep at age 79 after a liver ailment. Lord Avon had been rushed home from a Florida vacation by RAF jet, and wished to die in England.

Willits teachers reject district salary offer in stalled talks

Negotiations between the Northern Mendocino Teachers Association and Willits Unified School District broke down over six major issues. The sole change offered was a reduced cost of living raise, and NMTA members voted unanimously to reject the proposal amid a walkout of 56 teachers.
