Bartolomei Texaco Hosts Harlem Clowns In Ukiah Benefit

City Loop leaders Bartolomei Texaco will play the touring Harlem Clowns at Ukiah High in a student body fund benefit game. Potent Bartolomei meets the Clowns after a hard week, with proceeds split with the Clowns to aid Ukiah High. Tickets 1.25 adults 0.75 students 0.50 children.

Stars Triumph in Hula Bowl With Offense Struggles

Hawaii All-Stars led by veteran star Elroy Hirsch defeated the College All-Stars with a patchwork offense Sunday in the 13th Hula Bowl. Hawaiians coach Hirsch came out of retirement to play one end, contributing despite limited contact. Green Bay end Billy Howton broke free for a 96 yard touchdown and caught key passes as the Stars seized control in the fourth quarter.

Basketball and Bowling Resume After Holidays in Ukiah

Ukiah city leagues and high school teams restart schedules after the Christmas and New Year break. Yokayo Bowl hosts Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday league action with matchups including 850 and 8:30 PM leagues, and city league games at Pomo Luta and Chessall gym. High school teams play multiple home games, with varsity frosh soph and junior preliminary games against Potter Valley and a Friday night MIL-N contest at Novato. Church league basketball also starts in 1959.

Superior Judge Lilburn Gibson will install Ukiah Rod & Gun Club officers at the Grange Hall on the south highway. The meeting opens at 7:30 with two color sound films, Outlaw of the Cameron and Fly Fishing For Shad. New officers include Bert Banzhaf as president Lonnie Nichole as vice president and Larry as recording secretary. In the American Hockey League overrun by overtime, the Cleveland Barons defeated the Rochester Americans 3-2 in an overtime affair in Rochester after a 4-3 sudden death win over Buffalo the previous day.
