Christmas Holiday Delays Mine Safety Check After 38 Die

In Hyden Kentucky UPI reports the Finley Coal Co mine explosion last Wednesday killed 38 workers. A planned December 22 safety inspection by the U S Bureau of Mines was postponed due to holiday schedules. Investigators planned to assess five cited safety violations and probe possible electrical causes alongside state inspectors.

Car crashes through fence and office as Ukiah scrambles to new waste service

A car driven by Robert K. Vrazel 44 of Laws Avenue Ukiah backed out of a parking spot at The Lido and, after fogged rear window, rolled forward hitting a car and then breaking through the fence into the Ukiah Sanitary Disposal Service office. The USDS ceased operations and Ukiah Solid Wastes takes over with a five year City of Ukiah contract starting tomorrow. Vrazel uninjured. Firefighters stood by. Weather and date details follow.
