Rear Admiral James Hildreth, once in command at Guantanamo Bay Cuba, was honored Saturday at a cocktail party hosted by his mother Mrs Lou Hildreth and son Standley Hildreth. Attendees included family Ukiah High classmates Harley Branson and Clara Branson and many longtime area friends. Hildreth now serves in Norfolk Va after returning from Cuba following challenging diplomatic duties.

Pomona Grange Confers Fifth Degree in Mendocino
A special session of the Mendocino County Pomona Grange conferred the fifth degree at Fort Bragg Grange with Master Claude Trimble presiding. Deputy State Master Arthur Burke and the Pomona Grange Degree team led the ceremony. Twelve women in pastel costumes represented the Court of Pomona on stage. Nine county Granges were represented with 82 attendees, including members from Ukiah, Willits, Redwood Valley, Fort Bragg, and Laytonville. California State Grange Lecturer Ruby Duncan led a Sunday conference at Little Lake Grange hall in Willits to outline the year’s programs. attendees are asked to bring a hot dish for the noon potluck.

The readout lists a week of school meals with daily main courses and sides. Monday offers beef stew with veg sticks peaches peanut butter brownies and rolls. Tuesday features hamburger on a bun with celery sticks jello and cookies. Wednesday serves pizza with green beans carrot sticks and fruit cup. Thursday oven fried chicken with mashed potatoes buttered peas and orange slices with hot rolls. Friday shows a holiday, no service.
