Sinai electronics dispute settles as two sides agree

Israeli and Egyptian officers resolved a Sinai installation dispute and agreed to begin construction of an Egyptian electronic surveillance post near the Gidi pass after a U.N. facilitated meeting at Post 512. No Israeli casualties reported amid two border patrol attacks by Arab guerrillas in southern Lebanon.

Christmas Effort Aids 161 Ukiah Valley Families

The Community Christmas Effort brightened the holidays for nearly 800 people in 161 Ukiah Valley families. Over 100 volunteers packed Christmas boxes during December 19 to 24, delivering them on Christmas Eve with help from the Redwood Empire Lions Club Mendocino County 4wheel Jeep patrol and the Ukiah Jaycees. Donations came from as far as Los Gatos, and Chairman Erwin Martin praised the response as among the most successful in the 24 years of service.

Firefighters Battle Home Blaze on Clay Street

Ukiah firefighters dispatched 27 men and five pieces of gear at 9 26 a m Saturday to Robert Johnston residence 1106 W Clay St to fight a blaze thought to start near a water heater on a utility porch. It took almost two hours to ensure no sparks in three or four attic openings under the roof. Volunteer Jim Wattenburger suffered a head burp entering an attic but refused hospitalization. The one story house owned by Roy Johnston sustained major damage to the utility porch and rear attic area. cause not yet established.

Postal increases blocked over proper procedure say judges

UPI reports that ten cent first class mail caps remain after Judge Sirica blocked three cent hikes. Postal Service appeals explain why rate changes should stand. He found the board failed to obtain proper consent from the Postal Rate Commission before proposing increases. If approved, changes would remain temporary until final commission ruling.

Ford enjoys last day on Vail slopes before return

President Ford spent his final full Christmas vacation day skiing at Vail Colorado with four women companions including Penny Tweedy former owner of Secretariat. Indira Gandhi delays India elections for a year

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced that nationwide elections set for March would be postponed for one year and that the state of emergency declared last June would continue. The 1,000-member AICC endorsed the plan at Chandigarh and will submit the resolution to the plenary session amid no dissent.
