Medics to aid Viet civilians in 60 day service

A 14 physician team pauses en route to Vietnam to volunteer 60 days aiding civilian wounded and sick. The group is the 700th Volunteer Physicians for Viet Nam, spanning 11 states and Nigeria, supported by USAID and AMA. They will work unpaid in primitive, hot conditions, many returning for second tours. Moseley cites a great need for 32 physicians every 60 days to assist 16 million people with only 1,000 native doctors, two-thirds in military service.

Gravel truck damaged after snagging tree limb

A Smith Sand and Gravel truck hooked a tree limb while delivering gravel to Larry Eshpeter on Inez Lane off West Road in Redwood Valley. Driver Terry Pittman of Ukiah escaped injury.

Five drunk drivers nabbed by patrol over holiday weekend

Patrol arrests across Christmas weekend include Jack Lee Sutherland 28 Covelo and Robert Landis Frank 25 Elk booked at county jail. Frank faces 360 dollar fine or 60 days in jail after Fort Bragg court appearance. Other arrestees are Willaim Dorr Kaylor Ukiah Dan E Clark 53 San Francisco and Leo Leroy Collard 44 Ukiah with bail set at 360 dollars.

Nixon opposes federal campus police role in unrest issue

Flood funds for state flood relief in California

The federal government approved a 50 million grant for repair of flood and storm damaged public facilities in 27 California districts. Administered by the Office of Emergency Preparedness, it will cover clean up and repairs to public property and sanitary facilities. This adds to 58 million already provided for 1969 relief programs.

Steven Pratt Charged With Felony Drunk Driving

Ukiah police arrested 19 year old Steven Pratt at his Redwood Valley home on a warrant charging felony drunk driving after a Dec 20 two in the morning crash on Perkins Street left Carlos Mitchell, 18, critically injured. Pratt faces court January 5 at 10 a.m. Mitchell remains in extremely critical condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Freeman Arrested on Burglary Charges in Coveloan

David William Freeman 21 of Covelo was arrested Saturday by Deputy Ross Duke in Covelo on a bench warrant after failing to appear in court on burglary charges. Freeman was booked at the county jail on $1,250 bail.
