Dollar devaluation and yen rise in IMF realignment

Dr Paul A Samuelson explains the UPI story on the Washington monetary agreements. The eight percent devaluation targets official gold price changes while currencies like the yen and mark rise against the dollar. The plan aims to avert a global trade war, widen currency fluctuation bands, and boost American competitiveness. Nixon surcharge ends, but final details and funding remain to be decided for 1972.

Reagan vetoes bill on Los Angeles School Board plan

Governor Reagan vetoed a bill by Assemblyman Warren to expand the Los Angeles School Board and require all 11 members to run in 1973. He cited compelling reasons, saying district elections would not guarantee minority representation and could shift funding to politically influenced districts, harming minority students.

No student fees for SSC sports

Sacramento reports Governor Reagan vetoed a bill by Sen. Randolph Collier to allow Sonoma State College to levy up to 15 in student activity fees for football and other extracurriculars. The veto cited lack of workable funding, noting students previously abolished student government and that a fee would not solve financing issues. The trustees had supported the measure, hoping to restore funding with student approval.
