A $25,000 personal injury case by Harry Stefani against Howard Memorial Hospital of Willits was settled out of court in San Francisco. The jury was dismissed after attorneys notified the court the trial would not proceed. Licenseless Drivers in Collision Near Laytonville

Vehicles driven by Robert Coleman man of Briceland and James Burks of Laytonville collided Saturday morning one mile north of Laytonville. Patrolman Warren Ingram noted Burks slowed for fog, Coleman failed to stop in time and struck Burks. No injuries reported. Both drivers cited for driving without a license.

Big Air Force Plane Takes Off From Muddy Airfield

The U S Air Force C 47 transport, stranded at Lampson’s Airport west of Lakeport for a week, finally lifted off Saturday noon after a partial runway dried. With a jet assist and a light crew, the five men used four spent canisters to fuel the lift before the craft rose sharply and circled the field, heading toward Stead Air Force Base in Reno.

Isnard Automobile Hit by Northwestern Pacific Freight Near Willits

Johan Isnard of Ukiah drove into fog near 9 pm 6-12 miles south of Willits when a Northwestern Pacific diesel freight struck his car. Mrs Isnard explored the damage and urged backing up but the vehicle could not be moved in time. The front end was badly damaged. Conductor Jack Witch of Sausalito led the freight. Patrolman G D Brest investigated and Isnard praised the crew for help and the safe return home.

Ukiah Resident Returned Here For Car Theft

Thomas George Sherman 41 of Ukiah is expected to face a car theft charge after being returned to the county jail from Modesto by Chief George Smith and Deputy E.R. Witter. Sherman held for investigation over the theft of a truck owned by Supervisor Paul Poulos. Parts of the vehicle were found in Lake county. the truck had been cut into sections by a torch and many parts were missing.

Premier Pierre Mendes-France won a decisive confidence vote 310 to 172 in the French National Assembly and immediate debate followed on West German rearmament. He defended an Indochina budget of 223 million dollars and claimed the United States will spend about 400 million in Indochina in 1955 amid NATO and Big Three talks.

Investigation Clears Philo Resident

Earl Henry Morris of Philo, 22, was released with no charges after authorities ruled the case dismissed for lack of evidence following allegations by his wife that he molested her underage daughter. The district attorney's office confirmed no charges will be pressed.

Fire at Apple Avenue home causes minor damage

On Saturday December 18 at 8 pm firefighters responded to George Portlock's residence on Apple Avenue where two by fours near the fireplace overheated but damage was negligible. No injuries reported and the cause under investigation.

Pope Plans Christmas Eve Radio Broadcast

The Vatican said Pope Pius XII has improved enough to record a Christmas Eve greeting. He will appear from his fourth floor studio window on Christmas Day to bless the faithful in St. Peter's Square, with the message published rather than delivered in person. The Pope rested well after a quiet night and planned a brief garden walk. Nearly 15,000,000 tons of steel were used by the auto industry in 1953.

Helicopter Airlift Helps Ill Lake County Man

A seriously ill Bartlett Springs resident, Charles Kuenzell, 51, was airlifted by Coast Guard helicopter from his isolated home to an Oakland hospital after a doctor appealed for help. The helicopter landed 15 miles northeast of Clear Lake amid dense trees, with maintenance worries over a canvas mat near the rotor.
