Ukiah student injured in cycle auto crash at intersection

Joseph DeTurbiville 16 suffers head injuries after a Honda motorcycle struck his cycle auto at Oak and Herby Street intersection. He is listed in satisfactory condition at Mendocino Community Hospital. Richard Turner of Ukiah was eastbound on Henry Street and stopped before the collision. DeTurbiville is a South Valley high school student.

Glenn County plans sale of 44 year old Old Ferry

Glenn County is auctioning its 44 year old Old Ferry after a new bridge opens in two to three weeks. County Clerk Gene Walker notes it could serve as a bridge or even a raft, while a second river ferry remains in operation. No bids have arrived yet, but Walker expects interest before the December 28 opening.

Lakeport man shoots self in leg during cleaning

Lakeport resident Art Mayo reportedly injured himself with a .357 magnum pistol while cleaning the gun at his home in Scott's Valley over the weekend. Deputies say Mayo drove to Lakeside Community Hospital after the firearm discharged when he dropped it, striking his leg.

Car Crash Injures Child in Redwood Valley

A four year old Valery Perrine suffered minor injuries when a car driven by 28 year old David Perrine skidded on loose gravel on Road B and overturned in Redwood Valley Friday afternoon. California Highway Patrol reported two drunk driving arrests nearby. Robert Keene 55 of Talmage and Antonio Zepeda 27 of San Jose were taken into custody on Talmage Road.

New high for federal campaign in three counties

Federal employees and military personnel in Sonoma Mendocino and Lakes counties contributed over 20343 to the 1971 Combined Federal Campaign. This is a 3.0 percent rise from last year with first time participation by Mendocino and Lake County staff and full participation in Santa Rosa IRS and Region Seven Civil Defense.

PT&T Contract Awarded for Ukiah Distance Dialing Building

Pacific Telephone announces a SR company awarded the PT&T contract for a Potter Valley building to house direct distance dialing gear for Ukiah. The 950 square foot structure, costing 26200 dollars, is slated for completion next March with Warren T. Ambrose Construction as low bidder.
