Three Vehicle Crash South of Ukiah Injures Driver

A three car collision at 7 55 am 1 5 miles south of Ukiah sent Mr and Mrs Newell Hitt to Ukiah General Hospital with injuries including a fractured pelvis and a bruised back. Warren Gregg of Lodi faced a citation for following too closely and speeding. Albert Eldrick of Ukiah slowed for a turn when the Diamond T tractor semi tanker rear ended him, pushing him into the Hitt car. The tanker then swerved into the Hitt vehicle as investigators from the C H P pursue the cause. Mr Hitt works at Ukiah Motor Sales used car department.

Lake County Gas Company Sued For Negligence

The Sacramento suit seeks 151000 in damages from California Liquid Gas Company its Lake County Gas Company and Lon J Gibson after a July explosion at Clearlake Highlands damaged property and injured several people The plaintiffs include Thelma Garner Sue Garner Irvin Garner and others with attorney firm Nichols Richard Allard Williams representing Mrs Garner The case cites negligence and notes Gibson survived severe burns This item also mentions a Nebraska clerk conflict unrelated to the main suit.

Ukiah Navy pilot ejects before jet explodes over Salinquin

Lieut Garry Radcliffe of Ukiah, a 1947 Ukiah High School graduate, ejected from an F9F-6 Cougar during target practice near Salinquin Island in the Philippines. His jet exploded but he landed safely after a tear in his parachute, and was rescued and returned to the Yorktown for medical checkup.

No Trace of Air Force Man Missing Near Point Arena

An Air Force Survival Unit member slipped from Iversons Landing rocks into the sea near Point Arena yesterday afternoon. A Coast Guard helicopter and beach group searched about five miles south of Point Arena, but the missing serviceman was not found as darkness ended the effort. The name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

Weather Outlook for Northwestern California Coast

Northwestern California forecast shows cloudy conditions with scattered light rain today, becoming partly cloudy tonight and Tuesday. Fort Bragg area expects occasional rain today, light southwest to west winds near the coast, and little temperature change with highs near 52 to 54 and lows near 32 to 32. Small craft warnings persist until 11 am from Fort Bragg northward for southerly winds 20 to 30 mph.

Burglars Strike Ukiah Area Stores and Law Office

Early morning break ins target Merk Radio Shop and John sons Sewing Machine Center in Ukiah in the same building. A law office Kasch Cook in the Crawford Building was entered. Rudolph Naumann reports seeing two men at the Radio Shop rear door and provides a description for police. Gerald E Johnson reports prior entry at the Sewing Machines Center. Philo Man Held on Charges In County Jail

Earl Henry Morris a 10 year old stepdaughter alleges a December 3 incident at the Philo home. Police arrested 22 year old millworker Earl Henry Morris after a complaint from Dollie Dimple Morris who with her children is in Corcoran California. The girl was taken to a doctor Saturday for illness and infection and allegedly warned of fatal harm if she spoke. Morris had lived in the county about four months.

Unloaded gun injures Lakeport youth in rural ranch incident

Bruce Qettel, nine, son of Dr. Paul Oettel, was hit in the face by a blast from a 70 year old muzzle loading shotgun while playing at Highland Springs ranch. Doctors at Lakeside Community Hospital expect plastic surgery. the shot narrowly spared his eyes. The weapon was fired by a 10 year old in a cowboy and Indians game. the guns were from Dr. Neal Woods’ antique collection. Deputies say the youths retrieved them while parents were away.
