Farmers Rally With Tractors At Statehouses Across Nation

Thousands of farmers in major farm states gathered at statehouses on Saturday demanding higher crop prices and signaling a looming nationwide farm strike. Vehicles from Prospect Valley Watonga Cherokee County Sterling and Riverton clogged streets as shoppers cheered from windy sidewalks. John Stulp of the American Agriculture movement warned of broad participation while Denver saw 1 500 tractors at the capitol and city children climbing aboard the first machine.

Water project halted by Redwood Valley landowner barricade

Louise Garzini blocked a Redwood Valley ranch gate to protest a 2,026 resident water project tied to Lake Mendocino water. She claims dynamite blasting and a 24 foot tank have dried her well, and demands answers on land condemnation, pipeline routing, and compensation. District officials sought access but the gate stayed locked as mediation continued.

Ukiah Christmas Concert Tuesday At Pomolita Gym

Ukiah concert band and mixed chorus present a free 8 p.m. Christmas show Tuesday at Pomolita junior high gym. The program features Godspell selections sung by 34 voice Ukiah chorus and band choral readings with narrator David Fowler. Over 160 students participate as the group plans a trip to the Fiesta Bowl Parade in Phoenix.

Ukiah’s International Latitude Observatory Still Active

The Ukiah observatory on Observatory Avenue remains in operation since 1899 as part of the International Latitude Service. Robert Pettey, the current operator since 1972, oversees nightly six hour observations of 18 star pairs to monitor polar movement with plans for a photographic zenith telescope nearby.
