Ford signs loan bill to aid New York bankruptcy bid

Fourth death in Dutch Moluccan hostage crisis

South Moluccan gunmen freed two sick hostages as a man died of injuries from leaping from the Indonesian consulate window. With more than 50 still held in Amsterdam, negotiators met with a Moluccan mediator and Indonesian official while gunmen pressed for South Moluccan independence. The releases bring total hostages at the two sites to 54, including 29 on the train and 25 at the consulate.

Chapman jurors withheld information in murder case

Leo Cook attorney for Warren Chapman sentenced for second degree murder of Bob Parducci. A motion for a new trial is set before Superior Judge Lloyd Phillips. Cook alleges jurors concealed family violent crime ties including a juror foreman’s brother-in-law slain in 1969 and a juror’s godson murdered in New Jersey. Chapman owns Salmon Inn Motel Novo. Parducci, 28, was killed after a dispute over parking with Orsi and Chapman.

Weller enters crowded Ukiah council race as third candidate

Jim Weller, 24, planning technician, files for Ukiah city council as the third candidate amid a crowded field. Lee Enemark and Mary Snyder have already filed, with four others indicating they will run, while councilman Jack Simpson's decision remains uncertain.
