California jobless rate falls to 7.2 percent in November

California’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.6 to 7.2 percent in November as seasonal layoffs were smaller than normal. Unemployed workers rose by 4,700 to 680,000, with 9.4 million employed and a November decline of 72,800 from October. The department cautioned about data comparability for certain statistics.

Ukiah council nomination opens with two seats up

The first day to file nomination papers for two Ukiah city council seats is Thursday, December 8, with incumbents Mary Snyder and Barry Wood in contention. Snyder plans reelection while Wood says he will not seek another term. filings due by noon December 29. If incumbents aren’t filed by noon, nonincumbents may file by January 4, 1978. The election includes a ballot measure on geothermal power plant development in Lake County.
