Snow Closes Some Ukiah Area Schools After Night Storm

Ukiah and central county residents woke to a snowy morning with one and a half inches in the city and over a foot in Round Valley. School buses faced icy roads. Ukiah Unified district buses lacked chains, closing Redwood Valley schools and delaying Potter Valley high grades. Roads including Ukiah Boonville and Highway 20 saw hazards while utilities reported minimal outages.

Ukiah council moves on firehouse doors and bids

Ukiah city council on Wednesday night approved plans to replace six aging firehouse doors and set bid openings for Dec 26 and Jan 9 1973 for electrical system telemetry equipment and emergency radio gear. The meeting also noted Cox Motors as low bidder for four police cars and scheduled hearings on a Nazarene church sanctuary addition and a Mary Cox apartment zone change.

Claude Brinegar, 45, a Mendocino County born executive, was named by President Nixon as the new transportation secretary. He is a former Union Oil senior vice president in Los Angeles, educated at Mission High San Francisco, Stanford PhD in economics, and has three children. The nomination was announced by White House press secretary Ronald Ziegler.
