Hart seeks new Senate probe into medical costs and fraud

Wednesday Rites for Ray McCune

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday for Ray McCune an 82 year old Ukiah resident born in Illinois. He died Thursday in a Ukiah hospital and leaves no known relatives. The Rev Richard Taylor of First Baptist Church will officiate at Zimmerman Mortuary with burial in Ukiah cemetery.

CHP checks no reason auto mishap near Ukiah

Lottie Mead, 71, of Ukiah, suffered a forehead laceration a possible injured shoulder and a bruised leg when her car veered off Lake Mendocino Drive near Eastside Road Calpella Friday afternoon. She was taken to Ukiah Community Hospital. Highway Patrol reports no apparent reason for the vehicle to drift off the road before striking an oak tree after skirting a ditch and crossing East Road.

Horse Films Tuesday at Ukiah Fairgrounds

Ukiah 4-H horse group sponsors a film series for horse lovers. The first showing is tomorrow at 7 30 p.m. in the Home Arts building, titled The Proud Breed and narrated by Wayne Newton. A second film about Arabians will also be narrated by Newton. Admission is free. refreshments raise funds for future projects. Future screenings will cover other horse breeds.

Three County Burglaries Probed in Western District

Deputies investigate three separate burglaries in western county last week. Darwin Thompson reports $254 in jewelry stolen from his Fort Bragg home after a side door window was broken to gain entry. St Pauls Community Methodist Church in Point Arena was entered with an amplifier and two speakers valued at $154 taken. Jim's Building Supplies on Highway 1 at Hare Creek reported $33 in money and merchandise taken through an office window.

Health Department Announces December Ukiah Clinic Dates

Health officials announce clinic changes in Ukiah with the well baby clinic moved to the health department office at Low Gap and N Bush. The well baby clinic is Friday December 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, immunization clinic Thursday December 9 from 5 to 7 p.m., and tuberculin testing Friday December 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. Infants may be seen by calling 462-4731 extension 284. immunizations and tuberculin testing do not require appointments.

An earthquake sent a wave like tremor along the west coast from Naples to Taranto Monday night. No damages or injuries were reported.

Beatty named Mendocino SCD conservationist new post

Bill Beatty has been appointed district conservationist for Mendocino County Soil Conservation District succeeding Dwain Campbell who moved to Sonoma County. Campbell will serve in Santa Rosa Goldridge and Sotoyome offices with headquarters in Santa Rosa. Beatty, from Patterson California, holds an agronomy degree from Iowa State and comes from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service two years after moving to California. He will assist individuals groups and units of government in planning and applying conservation practices amid issues like land slippage and gully erosion, using a multidisciplinary staff approach.

Skating Cars Collide on Russian River Bridge

Highway Patrol reports a two car crash on the Russian River bridge south of Hopland in the early hours Saturday. Merrilee Gale of Ukiah and Fred Bonnell of Hopland, both northbound, slid and struck rails while trying to pass. Bonnell escaped unhurt with major damage to his car. Gale sustained minor injuries and sought medical care.

Three Suspects Nabbed on Pot Charges in Gualala

Three men arrested in Gualala were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bernard Noonan, 20, of transient address. David Aldrich, 19, Meriden Conn. and James Hamer, 24, Gualala, were booked after deputies responded to a disturbance call in Pacific Woods. Officers found marijuana and paraphernalia at the residence on Pacific Woods Road.

Third arrest in burglaries named Britton in Ukiah case

Ronald Lee Britton aged 19, the third suspect in the Angell's Pharmacy and Medico Drug burglaries, was arrested Saturday night at his Redwood Valley home on a Ukiah Justice Court warrant charging him with burglary and receiving stolen property.

Local drivers arrested for drunk driving in Mendocino County

Sheriff deputies and CHP arrested multiple drivers on drunk driving charges. Charles Nathan Holder 25 of Willits plus Franklin Wilsey 48 of Ukiah and Robert Robuson 38 of Ukiah were detained on Highway 101 and in Covelo. Arthur Sutton 37 of Ukiah booked in county jail. Raymond Dee Rhodes 35 of Willits held on a Thursday arrest and bailed out.

Chevrolet recalls 6.7 million autos in historic campaign

General Motors launches what is described as history's largest automotive recall costing an estimated 35 million. The action targets standard Chevrolets and Novas built 1965 to 1969 and 1967 to 69 Camaros plus certain light trucks with V 8 engines. Repairs start in February and GM will install engine mount restraints at its expense.

Guilty Verdict in Stream Pollution Case Near Philo

Two local men, Melvin Davis and James W. Moody, were found guilty in Anderson District Court of stream pollution charges. Davis was convicted of depositing deleterious material into Gut Creek and operating without a permit. Moody was convicted of operating without a permit. The two‑day trial, overseen by Judge Homer Mannix, featured multiple peremptory challenges and a second venue during lunch. Jury foreman was Austin Hulbert.
