City Lacks Answers on Natural Gas Deal Needs Engineering Help

City Manager Lyell Cash urged council to hire R W Beck and Associates of Seattle to analyze PG E bids and supply options for the gas system. The proposal would cost about 7000 and aims to answer key questions on wholesale supply, rate bases, depreciation, and the city’s investment before negotiating final terms with PG E.

Public Hearing on Russian River Water Resources Dec 16

A public hearing on continued water resources investigations for the Russian River basin north of Ukiah is set for Wednesday December 16 at 8 p.m. at Frank Zeck school. Invites federal state county municipal agency representatives, and interested parties including commercial agricultural civic and property owners to express needs for improvements including a potential multi purpose reservoir for flood control conservation and recreation in the Redwood Valley area.

Ukiah Jaycees seek Outstanding Young Man nominees

The Ukiah Jaycees open nominations for the ninth annual Outstanding Young Man award for 21 to 35 year olds recognized for a 1964 civil act. Nomination forms are at the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce and John's Service Station. New Tactics Against Viet Reds

Ambassador Maxwell D. Taylor said he will return to Saigon with new steps by U S and Vietnamese forces to aid the anti Communist effort in South Vietnam. He did not indicate expanding American troop levels and will hold across the board discussions with South Vietnamese leaders upon his return. He noted air strikes on supply routes and bases in Laos and North Vietnam might aid victory, and planned to begin talks with Vietnamese officials on Sunday or Monday.

Cow Mountain road ruling opens access from Mendocino County

Superior Judge Wayne Burke ruled Eight Mile Valley Road public while Purdy Garden Road remains private affecting Cow Mountain access. Howard Twining and other owners had sued to decide whether Mill Creek Road to Eight Mile Valley and Lakeport Road is public, with prior limits on entry by recreation seekers. The case notes Bureau of Land Management had built roads and facilities in this Cow Mountain area. George Nelson, once district attorney, represented the county in the action.
