In a tight countywide vote the Hopland and Ukiah high school districts narrowly approved unification by a 923 to 740 margin amid low turnout. Absentee ballots favored yes 18 to 10, with results varying by precincts including close 47 47 ties at Yokayo and 42 to 41 at Riverschool Talmage.

King says FBI to arrest slayings probe figures soon
Washington UPI report says FBI Director Hoover told Rev. Martin Luther King of imminent arrests in the Mississippi slayings case.
