PG&E marks decade of Canadian gas imports

PG&E today completes ten years of importing Canadian natural gas via the 1400 mile Big Yard pipeline begun in 1961. Canada supplied about 35 percent of PG&E gas, with the rest from the southwest and California fields, as deliveries surged to 980 million cubic feet daily and two trillion cubic feet total since start.

Peterson promoted to operations officer at Wells Fargo Ukiah

Brandt N. Peterson has been promoted to operations officer in Wells Fargo Bank's Ukiah office. Manager Jack H. Kummert announced the change today. Peterson joined Wells Fargo in 1968 after serving as assistant operations officer. He lives in Ukiah with his wife Martha and serves as vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Body of man identified as Earl Franks

The coroner identified the body of a man found in a pear shed west of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad depot as Earl George Franks 57 of Point Arena. The death appeared natural and next of kin is James Franks. Funeral arrangements are pending. Officers arrested Dawnee Dee Grimm 42 of Ukiah for drunk driving on Sanford Ranch Road and booked her into the county jail.

Planning commission to consider Holm Hilltop subdivision

Holm Timber Industries officials will seek tentative map approval for Holm Hilltop No 2 a 30 lot subdivision south of Point Arena. Fire protection requirements discussed by county forestry division. Public hearings on rezoning and trailer park uses also planned with multiple parcel owners seeking agricultural preserves and mobile home park permits.

College renaming a major victory

State Senator Randolph Collier notes a bill signed to designate some of California's 19 state colleges as California State Universities. The plan would rename the system California State University and Colleges, with only eligible colleges attaining university status such as Humboldt State and Sonoma State College in the 1st Senatorial District likely to change names.

Observatory chief retires after 25 years of service

After 88 years in government service Leonard F Caouette of Ukiah retired yesterday from the Ukiah Observatory on Observatory Way. Robert E Petty Jr President of Virginia will replace him and take duties on Jan 9 1972. Until then Assistant Observer Robert Finch remains in charge in Ukiah.

Stowaway boy sneaks on jets bound for Hawaii

Serramone Manuel an 11 year old from Ingleside California explains he has stowed away on commercial jetliners six times. He boarded a Los Angeles to Houston flight claiming a random woman was his mother and later tried to reboard to New Orleans. He was jailed by Houston authorities after presenting as the grandson of an elderly man. The boy has stowed away on flights from Los Angeles six times in five months, four times the planes returned. He says flying is fun and he hopes to reach Hawaii.

Renewal drive for California vehicle licenses in 1972

California DMV mails renewal notices for 14.4 million vehicles including 10 million cars and 2 million trucks. About two million will use early renewal, with January renewals and a February 4 deadline. Directors urge timely payment, correct statements, and early visits to offices to receive the 1972 stickers, with color codes for car and boat plates.
