Nixon ordered to provide Watergate tapes to court

UPI reports Judge John J. Sirica ordered President Nixon to produce Watergate tapes and documents for private in camera review before deciding whether they should be turned over to the grand jury. Five day delay allows Nixon to appeal while the court weighs evidence and privilege questions.

Ukiah board weighs new high school site option

Ukiah Unified trustees debated a fourth potential site for a proposed four year high school as part of a $4 950 000 district wide bond plan to be voted on November 6 The 60 acre parcel lies along a western hillside near Lover's Lane and would offer ample land for parking PE fields and future expansion while limiting impact on agricultural land Administrators will study ownership price and suitability ahead of the September 11 board meeting The panel emphasized avoiding an overcrowded site and preserving land for future expansion while considering Redwood Valley land for a potential future junior high or small high school

Lake crash kills woman in Lake County incident

Judy Hunter, 27, died after a rollover on Highway 20 east of Walker Ridge in Lake County. She was treated at Redbud Hospital then Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for head injuries suffered when her car left the road at about 8 p.m. The Lake County CHP had few details. her stepfather and mother in Seattle were notified.

Fire calls report grass and vehicle fire incidents

Tuesday traffic reports show a grass fire at Firerest Drive with no damage. Later at Ray's Tire Shop on 550 Talmage Road a fire caused major damage to the front seat of a truck. Wednesday 2:26 a.m. grass fire at 311 Lake Mendocino Drive damaged county property but no other damage.

Ukiah Area Tax Rates Drop for 1973 74 year

County supervisors finalize the 1973 74 tax rates with Ukiah city reducing its rate by 16 cents and the county by 7 cents. The combined rate falls to 10.10 dollars per thousand, with notable changes across school districts, special districts, and new state funded programs.

Masonite to Replace Ukiah Mill Equipment

Masonite Corp plans a 10 million dollar upgrade at Ukiah hardboard mill. Joe Scott says new press equipment will replace 24 year old presses and a coating facility modernization will boost production and enable 18 foot hardboard lengths for residential and commercial use. Two to three weeks for installation.

Mendocino Community Hospital expansion petition filed

Ten Ukiah doctors led by Drury and Hook petitioned the Mendocino Community Hospital board to acquire land for expansion. The group urged a 15 to 20 acre hospital complex to allow growth and facility updates to meet community needs, with the board ordering the petition filed for reference in future use considerations.
