South All Stars Rally To Edge North In Arcata Showdown

In Redwood Bowl Arcata the South All Stars beat the North 20 to 18 after trailing 18 14 with just over two minutes left. Key players included Nelson and Borowicz for the South while Ukiah’s Estes and Wren anchored the North line. Peterson and Morgan contributed late scores as North fell short in a taut, penalty marred finish.

Denver Broncos beat the Oakland Raiders 21 17 in the Centennial Bowl as Steve Tensi scored on a one yard rush late. Denver built a 14 0 lead, Raiders rallied to lead 17 14 at halftime. Tensi connected earlier with Neil Sweeney for 26 yards.

McCormick Stars In Giants Win 18th Victory

Mike McCormick earned his 18th win as the San Francisco Giants shut out Atlanta 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. He later noted his surprise at reaching 18 wins as he pitched five more scoreless innings in a 4-1 loss in the nightcap. The twin bill split left the Giants 3-2 in the series and pulled them into a tightly contested NL race alongside Cardinals, Reds, Phillies, and Cubs.
