Assemblyman Frank Belotti announced that Hammerhorn Lake has been completed by the Wildlife Conservation Board in Mendocino National Forest near Hammerhorn Mountain at 3600 feet. The 10 acre lake was formed by diverting freshwater into a natural low mood. County of Mendocino handled construction under Road Commissioner Kemp Richardson with funding of 16 1000 allocated by the WCB. The lake will be stocked with rainbow trout by the Department of Fish and Game this fall and should offer good fishing next season. Mendocino County officials have agreed to provide for ongoing management.

Analysts saw it as tribute to the slain president more than a path to the White House though the Kennedy name remains magnetic. Kennedy aims for New York Senate seat now held by Kenneth Keating with party backing likely to secure the Democratic nomination at next Tuesday's state convention.
