Redwood Empire Fair Turnout Smashes Record
Unofficial figures from Jim Tocher of the 12th District Agricultural Association show about 26,500 fairgoers over Friday Saturday and Sunday, surpassing all prior three and four day event records. The 1963 three day fair drew 21,100. Approximately 10,000 attended Friday and Saturday, with 6,500 on Sunday. Full judging results will appear in Tuesday's Journal.

Driver Held After Fatal Sweeping Crash on State Street
Kenneth J. Decking, 30, of Redwoods Valley, is jailed on suspicion of felony drunk driving and open container after a 1962 sports car drifted across the northbound lane on N State Street at 7:25 am Sunday. The car hit an ad sign, then struck a model home planter at 1090 N State. Passenger Marcellus J. Banks, 31, of Philo, was lightly injured and hospitalized. Dockins faces arraignment today.

Edward Allen of Windsor was arrested Saturday in Boonville by the CHP for drunk driving failure to have a valid license and faulty brakes. He posted bail of $442 after being brought to the county jail.

Born Nov 13 1879 in Minnesota, long California resident and former sheep rancher turned police official. Survived by three sons Willard Lenard Don, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Pilot Dies In Crash At Hobergs
William Burl Frye 30 of Los Gatos was killed when a Mooney Mark 20 struck a tree near Hobergs Airport and crashed into timber. Three passengers survived with minor injuries after escaping through brush as fire broke out. Frye was president of Williams Hotel Inc and a Lakeside area resident.

Covelo man reacts to rabies treatment after skunk bite
Donald Dunlap 45 of Covelo suffers severe reaction to the first anti rabies serum after a rabid skunk bite on August 15 during a deer hunting trip. He is hospitalized at Hillside Hospital and reportedly responding to Pasteur treatment. Dunlap and his 12 year old son Donnie slept nearby when the skunk bit his cheek. animal not found. Covelo correspondent Tess Jesenko notes this is the fifth rabies case treated in Covelo in two years.
