Ukiah residents consider annexation and city water service as Millview district proposed from North Ukiah to Forks and along highway 20. A Tuesday meeting will push organization while city officials cite fire rate relief and shared costs, with city water system and plans for a booster well.

The 1956 57 tentative Ukiah city assessed valuation for property utilities and improvements stands at 10 736 940 dollars, about 1 092 486 higher than last year. Utilities figures are provisional awaiting State Board data, with a possibility of further increases after the board report.
Deputy Clinton Tulley drove the sheriff’s car when a Petaluma trucking company truck rear ended it on the Redwood Highway north of Forks near Scotty’s Shake Mill. Both drivers were cited. Tulley suffered painful bruising.

Two Mendocino City youths appeared in juvenile court Monday after damaging a bulldozer grader rock crusher two scoop mobiles and a dump truck along the highway near Camp Fire. They used pliers and a wrench to pull spark plugs break wires and poured sand in gas tanks. Henry Lazrus 18 Mendocino received 60 days in county jail. The case was continued to August 31.
The county planning commission met to discuss recreational development of the Coyote Valley reservoir lake shore. A $5,000 survey request was denied due to insufficient information on land availability. Dr. C R Kroeger noted health concerns and urged a minimum waterfront setback for sewage disposal. The commission planned to consider amendments to the county zoning ordinance.
Egypt declares willingness to negotiate the Suez Canal dispute if Britain and France halt their Middle East military buildup. The position was delivered in a cryptic embassy announcement.
Mendocino County reports about half of the Bartlett pear harvest finished with 136 cars shipped for fresh markets and 5 807 tons sent to canneries.
