In Anchorage Alaska UPI reports the Trans Alaska pipeline delay to finish minor design changes at pump stations to remove safety hazards Head of Interior Department Pipeline Office Jack Turner cites agreement by Alyeska Service Co to modify a drainage system and assign more experienced supervisors along the 800 mile route Federal officials say three drain valves were left open at Pump Station No 9 south of Fairbanks causing a 30 barrel oil leak and a seventh shutdown.

Ukiah Approves New Northern Fire Station Plan

The Ukiah city council and Ukiah Valley fire protection district board approved plans for a 5 600 square foot northern substation costing about 475 000 on a 1 2 acre site at Lovers Lane and N State Street. City and district share costs with funds expected soon and construction to start within 90 days of funding.

July 1977 consumer prices rise 0.4 percent

UPI reports the Labor Department showed consumer prices up 0.4 percent in July the smallest gain of 1977. The 4.8 percent annual inflation rate reflected easing costs at grocery stores and for gasoline and suggested a possible cooling trend.
