Funeral services for Luther G. Jordan 69 of 3A Louise Court Ukiah are set for Friday at Eversole Mortuary Abell Lodge 146 F&AM will conduct and lodge members serve as pallbearers Interment will be in Ukiah He was born in Colorado in 1902 lived in California 65 years in Ukiah 26 years a retired auto dealer and member of Ukiah Rotary Club and Masonic groups He is survived by wife Carol two children Paul Jordan Garnar-Lu Rechtwig two brothers and two grandchildren

Fun in West returns for Upper Lake third annual event

In Upper Lake California the third annual recreation center benefit celebration is set for Saturday starting with a noon street parade. A public barbecue western chicken feast begins at 2 PM followed by a carnival with games prizes and dances for adults and teens. Parade categories include commercial fraternal non fraternal marching units bands comic vintage vehicles and bicycles. Frank Santos serves as general chairman. Burglary reported as Charline F Hoaglen Ukiah says a $50 bill was stolen from her residence in the past three days.

Pargas truck mishap blamed on faulty spring

A gas truck overturned on Highway 29 three miles west of Lower Lake at 8 30 a m. driven by Alvin Anderson the vehicle remained northbound and overturned onto its right side. CHP said mechanical failure of the right rear spring or axle caused the crash. The loaded truck cleared by 7 p m with traffic not blocked.

Mendocino Planning Commission Hearing Sets Four Use Permits

Mendocino County Planning Commission will hold a Friday public hearing at 9 05 a m on four use permit applications including health studio in Redwood Valley by Margaret I Deissroth a temporary mobile home for Richard L Simpson near Highway 1 south east of Mendocino two mobile homes for farm laborers near Road Y and Colony Drive Redwood Valley and a campground development by R D Beaton south of Elk Elk Cove area Variances by William Price for a cul de sac over 600 feet and Edward J Spins for a cul de sac near Fort Bragg are also scheduled with tentative maps for two subdivisions at 11 a m near Anchor Bay Brush Opening Road and East Hill Road Willits A rezoning session follows at 1 30 p m for areas north of Fort Bragg near Highway 1 and related properties with service station and agricultural preserve hearings slated later with junk yard discussion in Laytonville

Ukiah Council Backs Rent Subsidy Plan

Ukiah city council passed a resolution in support of establishing a rent subsidy program in the Ukiah area. The plan would enable eligible renters to receive government aid, with federal standards applying to renters, subdividers, contractors, and managers. A housing plan tied to a master plan for future needs and federal funding participation is planned.

Cupcake negligence suit seeks $10,000 damages

Maria Magdalena Lopez sues La Blanquita Bakery Conrad Moreno and five Does in Mendocino County Superior Court charging negligence after buying a cupcake from a Ukiah delivery truck on August 18 1970. Plaintiff alleges a piece of glass and other waste were in the cupcake and partly eaten. She seeks $10 000 general damages for injuries including physical and nervous pain plus medical costs loss of wages and suit costs.

James Selzer memorial rites Friday

James W. Selzer 53 owner of Retailers Credit Agency of Ukiah will have memorial rites Friday at 10 a.m. in Eversole Mortuary chapel with interment at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. A World War II Air Corps veteran and holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross, he died Tuesday at his Watson Road home in Regina Heights. He leaves wife Virginia two sons Dick and Clay a daughter Liz Penny his mother Mrs Lenora Bishop and one grandchild. Contributions to the Heart Fund preferred.

Ukiah Wranglers Host All' Silver Trophy Show and Gymkhana

The Ukiah Wranglers hold an all day horse show and gymkhana at Ukiah Fairgrounds on Sunday starting 8 a.m. with the horse show at 8 and the gymkhana at 1 p.m. in Little Arena. Refreshments and family entertainment planned. Junior contestants under 18 eligible for two silver buckles donated by Pauls Western. silver trophies for first place and ribbons for places two through fifth.
