Pear Tree Center Construction to Start in September
Pear Tree Center, a 43 acre phase I project by Pear Orchard Associates, will begin in September on the north side of Perkins Street near the freeway. Anchored by K Mart, Albertson's, and Thrifty Drug, the complex will host about 20 specialty shops and serve 70,000 residents of Mendocino and Lake Counties with fashion oriented outlets. Architecture features Spanish tile roofs and adobe walls with shops opening onto a landscaped patio. two old redwood barns will supply some storefront timber. New figures from the secretary of state's report show Mendocino County Democrats widening their edge over Republicans over two years. From April 1974 to May 1976 the county added 56 net voters, with Democrats at 14,978 and Republicans at 8,332, while total registrations rose from 25,136 to 25,192. District shifts show First and Third gains, Second and Fourth declines, and continued Marin County influence in the Second Senatorial district.

Local pear packers smash all records
Elated Alex Thomas said 110 workers at the south Ukiah packing shed produced 8800 cartons of pears weighing 36 pounds each in a 7 pm to 5 am shift and stored them cold for shipment. A report from the California Canning Pear Association indicated a $105 per ton price for top grade Bartlett pears amid cannery strike fears and possible price drops from 125 per ton in 1975.
