Carter signs large public works and auto emission bills
President Carter signed two major measures. A $10.4 billion public works package funds nine of 18 dams and other projects amid concerns over extravagant spending. The act also funds production of the neutron bomb. The second bill extends auto emission standards for hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide for two more years.
Rohnert Park Woman Killed in Head-On Highway 101 Crash
A 20-year-old Rohnert Park woman Kirsten Cave died on arrival at Ukiah General after a late night head-on collision with a pickup driven by 19-year-old Robert Topper of San Bruno on Highway 101 just north of Reeves Canyon. Topper survived with minor injuries and may face manslaughter charges.
