Ukiah Beats Marin. Carmichael Falls to Sacramento In Opener

Ukiah toppled Marin 7 0 in a semifinal clash as center fielder Doyle Holland and pitcher Tate starred. Carmichael, hampered by seven errors, fell 13 4 to Sacramento, setting up a 7 30 showdown between Ukiah and Carmichael for a final spot and a Utah Pony League berth.

Ukiah and Lakeport Speedway point standings race hot

Ukiah and Lakeport feature tight point races across divisions. In Ukiah Max Sito leads with 467, Arnold Lyly 442, Willie third at 351, Silva 349, Graziano 327, with drivers again hitting the track Friday night in Ukiah and Saturday in Lakeport. In Super modified Bob Neilson leads with 414, Lyndall 385, Robison and Snow tied for third at 372, Pellegrini 370. Lakeport shows Arnold ahead 414 over Willie 358, Bell 344, Clary 336. Super-modifieds list Neilson 496, Lyndall 474, Deschamps 451, Snow 448, Pellegrini 412. Races start at 7:30 p.m with time trials and 8:30 p.m events across divisions including stocker and hot dog modified.

Elmer Rogers Wins Ukiah Men's Golf Club Championship

Mendocino County Sheriff sergeant Elmer Rogers defeated Larry Steppe of the FAA Flight Service in a 36 hole title match at Ukiah Men's Golf Club. Rogers used a two iron and eight iron to secure a final par on the 36th hole after both players were even through 35.

Shrine High School Game to Feature Cureton and Gray

North and South squads meet in the 16th Shrine High School Football Game at the Memorial Coliseum. Southern California star Mickey Cureton and Northern standout Mel Gray headline a field of 48 future stars. Cureton, Centennial High, holds CIF records and season and career rushing marks. Gray from Montgomery High, Santa Rosa, is a state sprint champion and prolific scorer. Coaches Bowles and Albert will guide Dan Pastorini of Bellarmine San Jose to lead the North attack as the series rebalance.
