Evacuation Plan for Saigon Extends Through Monday

Republican Rep. William S. Broomfield says Communists agreed via third country intermediaries to allow Americans and dependents to evacuate from Saigon with no trouble at least until Monday. Habib tells Senate refugees will be resettled largely in the United States, with more than 5,000 evacuees daily. The Ford administration plans for up to 130,000 refugees, while about 1,100 U.S. citizens remain in intense Saigon. Thousands of Vietnamese seek flight as Navy flights carry over 14,000 to Guam and the Philippines. Pentagon warns of a possible major North Vietnamese attack any minute. Kennedy demands U.N. aid follow March 31 appeal. Habib says many evacuees will come to the United States.

South Viet Nam Assembly urged Minh premier to negotiate cease fire

The National Assembly in Saigon met in special session to push Gen. Duong Van Minh for the premiership to negotiate peace with the Communists. Minh declined. U S and French envoys pressed for Huong to step aside as Minh offered conditions. Huong facing pressure from Hanoi and the Viet Cong while Saigon endures a widening battle ring and airlift risks.

Redwood Valley water district election sets May 27 vote

Voters in Redwood Valley county water district will vote Tuesday May 27 on borrowing 4.8 million dollars from the U S Bureau of Reclamation to build a valley water system. The plan pipes Lake Mendocino water to a holding pond, treats it, and distributes it. The 38 year loan would be funded by water revenues. E C Goodwin chairs the district board. Registration ends this Sunday. Ethel Jamison is deputy registrar. residents must be in county 30 days age 18 citizen. Those who moved or changed names must re register.
