Mendocino County Couples Sue IRS for Tax Refunds in Court

Three Mendocino County couples sue the Internal Revenue Service in federal court seeking refunds of overpayments while audits proceed. Plaintiffs Kenneth and Lois Mahan claim 1970 refunds of 1228 dollars, Bobby J and Norma Peterson 1623 dollars for 1970 and 1971, and Sherman and Betty Sargeant 2862 dollars for 1970 and 1971, with the suit representing a class of taxpayers whose refunds are held pending audits. Indian man dies in Wounded Knee gunfire standoff

An Apache man from Cherokee North Carolina, Frank Clearwater, 47, died in Rapid City hospital from a head wound he suffered April 17 during the gunfire exchange between U.S. Marshals FBI and AIM followers at Wounded Knee. Van Arsdall Resigns As Mendocino County Building Director

F. J. Van Arsdall resigned as head of Mendocino County building inspection after weeks of criticism from the Contractors Association over delays in plan checks. Rescue after 86 hours ends tragedy in Ukiah crash

Donald Conner, 22, a Santa Rosa student, survived a Piper Cherokee wreck eight six hours after the crash near Ukiah. Pilot Leland Monroe, 41, and two others, Doris Monroe 41 and Sheryl Conner 19, were killed. Rescuers used a block and tackle to free Conner before airlift to Hillside Hospital where his condition was listed as satisfactory. Authorities traced Monroe’s flight plan from Sonoma County airport to Ukiah and noted collision occurred near a windfall and oak tree at about 1 600 feet. Mrs Butler first sighted the wreck and notified authorities.
