QUINCY Morris Durrant the court appointed attorney for Jack Santo said he expected to resign today over a dispute about Santo defense conduct. Santo, on trial with Emmett Perkins and Harriet Henson for murdering Chester grocer Guard Young and three children on Oct 10, 1952, asked Durrant to pursue leads deemed time consuming and irrelevant. Durrant, who underwent surgery a week earlier, said his strength was insufficient for the defense Santo requests. Quincy attorney T. G. Elges was expected to replace Durrant after a weekend consultation. The trial, now 12 days old, resumed today after a four day recess.
County Supervisor Paul Poulos received minor injuries Friday night after swerving to avoid another vehicle seven miles east of the Redwood Highway on State Route 20. Poulos was not hospitalized and suffered bruises on his right arm leg and hip. No citations were issued by CHP Officer John O'Brien.
The Sugar man interests transferred titles Friday to Hollow Tree Lumber Company and associates in Mendocino and Sonoma counties, finalizing a 1.25 billion board foot consolidation. The $4.5 million purchase by Rudolph Lumber Company and Abe Sugarman triggers payroll growth from about 4 million to 6 million dollars annually with two new mills. A federal court denied a petition by three Coastal stockholders to block the plan, which had prior sanction from the U.S. District Court in Sacramento.

UW and UW Madison scientists began tests while observers noted no windshields were shattered just cracked or pitted.
Arnold Johanson aged 39 of Willits died at Howard Memorial Hospital after a crash one mile north of Willits at 2 30 p m yesterday. California Highway Patrol says the southbound car driven by John Dewey Earl 24 also of Willits failed to negotiate a curve and overturned on the east side. Funeral arrangements are pending at Anker Mortuary in Willits.

Chalmer Lee Love age 31 president of Laytonville Local 980 Wood workers of America will be arraigned in Sanel Judicial court on malicious mischief charges after allegedly breaking a truck window and mirror during a picket line flare up at Hampton mill. He is free on 250 dollar bail. The accident involved two lumber trucks entering mill yards during a two week CIO strike seeking a contract. Judge J. F. Manning to preside.
Ukiah police arrested David C. Rupe Ray D. Whitley and William E. Howard all aged 18 to 19 after two 15 year old boys reported being beaten on Gobbi street at about 8 pm last night. The youths were released on their own recognizance and face judgment Friday at 2 p.m.
Boston defeats the New York Yankees 8 to 1 in a morning American League game. Byrd and Gorman pitched for Boston with solid relief by Berra Nix Kinder and Owen. White closed out the ninth as Boston piled up eight runs on five hits while New York managed two runs on two errors and five hits.
Iowa hams aboard the damaged schooner Oro de Oro II near Cliperson Island radio to ships and Coast Guard as 5 amateurs and 10 Mexican sailors struggle after a storm. A Mexican tanker is due to rendezvous tonight with food and water.
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles met with President Eisenhower at Augusta to discuss Southeast Asia. He said it is unlikely American troops will be sent to Indo China but urged collective measures against Soviet Communism. Dulles aims for unity in defense before Geneva talks on Korean peace. He will fly to Paris for NATO ministerial council pre Geneva.
Two Humboldt county youths aged 18 and 19 stole a school bus in Miranda and were arrested near Fort Ross in Sonoma county this morning by Mendocino County deputy Henry Beebe. The suspects halted at a Manchester service station for four gallons of gas, triggering the stop. Humboldt sheriff's office will retrieve the bus and its driver in Ukiah tomorrow.
Patrick B. Henry of 1655 Elm Street is among 40 finalists in a San Francisco newspaper photography contest. He will join other finalists for a plane trip on Saturday morning April 24 for a photo session aloft. Henry submitted four photos including Lake Pillsbury and Armstrong Grove scenes. He works for Hollow Tree and runs his own darkroom.
Clyde L. Powell, assistant commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration, refused to answer Senate Banking Committee questions citing possible self incrimination. Powell, in charge of rental housing, had been subpoenaed after a voluntary appearance refusal. The scandal involves multi million dollar housing irregularities and prompted Powell to attempt resignation, initially accepted then blocked pending inquiry. Wheeler Hollyday, ousted commissioner and first witness, testified that the Justice Department was asked to probe a $10,000 transaction with a private builder. Albert W. Cole heads Eisenhower advisory housing committee reviewing regulations intended to prevent homeowner fraud.
