College fair agreement reached at Ukiah Fairgrounds

Gateway Community College will occupy three buildings at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah with 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. rental of 8000 dollars annually. The college agreed to fund ground improvements, a 750 foot Cyclone fence, drainage work, restroom upkeep, utility sharing, and partitions for classrooms, with the deal awaiting state review. Pete DeVries and Walter Robie led negotiations, praising the fair board for its cooperation.

Storer seeks Ten Mile bench after Heeb exit

Hal Storer, who ran unsuccessfully against Robert Heeb two percent years ago, applied for the Ten Mile Judicial District seat after Heeb resigned. The board received the application but took no action pending the judicial proposal advisory election. Supervisor Ernie Banker proposed consolidating the Ten Mile district with Judge Embree Reynold's Big River District and possibly offering the seat to Reynolds. The board will wait on Tuesday’s balloting results to decide if consolidation is favored.

Coastal motel wins crucial court test

Superior Judge A B Broaddus ruled in favor of the county denying Elizabeth Burger’s bid to block a Jug Handle Creek motel complex. The 10 page decision upheld the supervisors' use permit and found the environmental impact report adequate. Pacific Holiday Lodge Corp received a building permit last September for an 80 unit motel with restaurant and bar atop the Jug Handle bluff.
