Legislative Reforms Proposed by Merle Orchard

Six Candidates To Present Views In District One Night

Six supervisorial candidates for the First District are invited to present views at a Candidates Night at Redwood Valley school. The event, sponsored by the Calpella Redwood Valley Farm Bureau Center, opens at 8 p.m. Secretary I E Butow urges members to attend and bring friends. Pauline Davis Calls Engle Excellent After Talk

Sacramento dispatch reports Assemblywoman Pauline Davis of Dorola says she spoke with Senator Clair Engle shortly after his Senate floor appearance. Davis, in Washington, says Engle was in excellent spirits and they discussed district and state legislative matters.

Four Ukiah Area Crashes Leave Fourteen Injured

A string of four accidents in the Ukiah area last night and this morning injured 14 people. Chief injuries were in a River Road wreck near Talmage where nine were hurt, and three were seriously hurt. CHP dispatched ambulances and officers to the scenes as 13 people were injured in the 5 to 6:50 p.m. period.

Car Fire on Mill and School Streets No Damage Reported

Fire crews respond to a car fire at Mill and School Streets Monday at 3:09 p.m. The vehicle, owned by Andrea Murray, sustained no damage beyond the fire incident. No injuries are reported.

Poitier Wins Best Actor Oscar for Lilies of the Field

Sidney Poitier, 40, becomes the first Black actor to win the Academy Award for best actor for Lilies of the Field.
