Narrow escape from fire for local news director
Local news director Maurice Saline escaped injury when a garage apartment fire at 265 Cherry Street broke out just after 2 AM. Neighbors John Osgood and Mona Ivey alerted Saline, who lowered himself to safety from a deck as flames reached the attic. damage was around 3000 dollars with 9 regulars and 15 volunteers fighting the blaze using nine pumpers and a salvage truck.

Israeli raid hits Beirut in first city assault
United Press International reports Israeli troops landed on Beirut beaches and advanced into the city in six American built cars rented by Israeli agents. Three top Arab guerrilla leaders were killed in what Prime Minister Golda Meir called a very marvelous operation. The raid, a reprisal strike, was described by Israel’s chief of staff as a serious blow to the guerrilla movement. Lebanese officials warned that no one is safe from Israeli aggression.

Ridgewood Park Units Halted by State Real Estate Order
The State Department of Real Estate ordered Ridge-Wheel Properties of Willits to stop selling or leasing lots in Ridgewood Park Units One and Three. The order cites failure to complete roadways per county plans and contracts, effective immediately, pending evidence that streets will be built to Mendocino County standards. The district attorney’s office had filed suit to halt sales over the road contracts.

The Surfwood development north of Mendocino will receive another public airing before county supervisors tomorrow at 10 a.m. The environmental impact report and specific plan were approved by the county planning commission in January.
