Last North Ukiah Little League tryouts announced

Last North Ukiah Little League calls all boys in the Ukiah Valley area including Redwood Valley and Calpella to try out for North Ukiah and Coast League baseball this summer. Final tryouts and registrations are scheduled at Ukiah Lions Park with nine year olds at 10 a.m., ten year olds at 11 a.m., and 11 and 12 year olds at 1 p.m. Boys may register at the tryouts by bringing $1 for insurance and a birth certificate plus at least one parent.

Celtics Take 2nd Straight From Knicks

Celtics rolled to a 122 to 97 win over the Knicks in New York to take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven semifinal. Boston led by 29 points and controlled the game as New York hosts Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.

Bride-elect Potter wins second AAU diving title

In Long Beach California Cynthia Potter a University of Indiana freshman became the first to win two events at the National AAU Swimming and Diving Championships. She scored 57.72 on her final dive for 447.51 points to win the women s three meter springboard. Jerrie Adair of San Fernando Valley Athletic Club finished second with 444.63. Milena Duchkova of Czechoslovakia was fourth with 412.44. Potter also won the one meter springboard the previous night.

Ted Williams earns first win as Senators manager

United Press International reports Ted Williams celebrated his first victory as Washington's manager after the Senators defeated the New York Yankees Wednesday night. Williams praised his team's attitude and admitted relief at securing a win early in his managerial tenure.

Rhonerville Golfers Visit Ukiah for Ball and Matches

Rhonerville Golf Club members arrive in Ukiah for a Golf Ball at Carl Purdy Hall with proceeds funding extra nine holes at Ukiah Municipal. Chicago Bears star Johnny Morris caught 93 passes in 1964 to set the NFL single season record for receptions. Washington's Charlie Taylor later matched with 70 catches in 1967 for the Redskins.
