Braves Beat Giants 9-2 In First Game Of Season

The Braves overwhelmed the Giants 9-2 as Felipe Alou and Hank Aaron hit doubles and No. 24 joined Willie Mays in the 300 stolen base club. Willie McCovey homered for San Francisco, while Atlanta’s pitching subdued San Francisco and powered a 16-hit attack. The Mets lost to Montreal 11-10 in a wild opener, and Dick Selma held Houston to two runs in San Diego’s 2-1 victory, as expansion clubs Seattle and Kansas City also won.

First 600 series at WIBC leads division race

Carol Brown, 24, from California, rolled the first 600 series of the 50th Woman's International Bowling Championships, posting 203 206 199 for 608 to lead Division 1 singles. Jay Ronning and Pamela Crume l of San Diego topped doubles with 1,134 to move into the division lead.

Pony League Signups and Tryouts Slated in Ukiah Area

Ed Burns reminds Ukiah area boys aged 14 to 16 to sign up for Pony League baseball. Signup takes place tomorrow at Paul Jack room 16 or bring Glen Pe cards. Two Port League tryouts set for 1 p m Saturday at Stadium. bring birth certificate to sign up. All boys must attend one session to be eligible. Odom Shuts Down Chicago in 5-2 Oakland Win

Ukiah Victorious In Low-Scoring Baseball Game

Ukiah topped Montgomery 1 0 with three hits while Morse pitched strongly for Ukiah. Strong and Tate provided the decisive runs, while defensive plays by Trotter and Tate aided the effort. Victorious divers reveal engagement at AAU championships

Win Young and Cynthia Potter, both IU students, announced their engagement Tuesday night after winning the first two events at the National AAU Short Course Swimming and Diving Championships in Long Beach California. Young won the three meter springboard with 559.68 points and Potter took the one meter springboard with 442.26. Young said he will retire from competition and enter coaching.
