Canine Rampage Kills 34 Sheep Across Talmage Ranches

Two Husky cross dogs escaped from owners and killed sheep across a four mile ridge in southern Talmage over two days beginning Sunday. Dayle Waddington lost 20 ewes and six lambs. Malcolm King 6 ewes and two lambs. Dogs were shot Tuesday as they prepared to kill again. Carcasses found. owner unidentified by animal control.

Planners to Consider Ukiah Hospital Use Permit

Ukiah planning commission will review a zone change and use permit for the proposed Ukiah General Hospital at Dora and Observatory Streets. A public hearing was continued for an environmental impact study, with concerns over traffic and privacy. Other items include hearings on elderly housing at Low Gap and Bush, zoning changes on Gobbi Oak areas and Orr Creek corridors, an auto repair shop and used car lot at 850 S State Street, and Oak Manor subdivision map with environmental findings.

Muni court review set for Ukiah forum on April ballot

One verdict reached in Angel's trial

UPI report notes a single verdict delivered in the double murder case of Hell's Angel William Moran with a second verdict still to be decided. Jury foreman John H. Plumb kept the outcome undisclosed as Contra Costa County Superior Court panel resumed deliberations. Moran, 40, faces charges for the deaths of Thomas Shull and Charles Baker during a drugs and alcohol party at the El Sobrante club headquarters. Judge Richard Arnason had instructed ten possible verdicts.

Floodwaters Flood New Orleans Area Big Pond Like Scene

United Press International reports that workmen piled sandbags on levees along the Mississippi to halt rising floodwaters. Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards said the floodwaters resemble one large pond in multiple parishes, with 16 deaths and 2.3 million acres already submerged as far as Illinois to Louisiana.

Fair conditions prevail in Northwestern California through Thursday. Fort Bragg reports a low of 43 and high of 65 for Thursday, while Ukiah shows a low of 40 and a high of 83.

MCCA urges change in Mendocino building dept leadership
