Newfoundlander Elected as Bishop in Newfoundland Diocese
The Diocese marks a historic shift as a Newfoundlander is chosen as bishop replacing Bishop Jones who resigned in 1917 due to ill health and labor among 80 scattered sheep. Jones died in 1918 after seeing his successor ordained by him but not present at consecration. The new era begins with a local candidate succeeding an English-born predecessor.
