Retrospect and Prospect for a New Year
The year saw anxiety as sons joined His Majesty's forces yet many survived the supreme sacrifice, with some areas reporting only a few losses. Economically better than the prior year, prospects look favorable for salted fish sales and food prices remain steady, while demand in newsprint and forestry may rise unless shipping is disrupted. The outlook for Spain possibly joining the Axis adds caution, but a brighter era is hoped for in the coming days.
