Ail’ teachers are requested to attend a forthcoming gathering. Branch officials state the meeting will address ongoing items and outline next week’s agenda. President C. King urges punctual attendance and orderly discussion.
W P A members are invited to meet at the Court House on Thursday January 16 at 8 pm Dorothy Hodder secretary announces the gathering to discuss activities and plans for the local WPA group.

Schr Boehner who left here on New Year's day arrived at St John's the following Friday evening as recorded in local dispatches noting travel over the holiday period and arrival timing.

Mr. George Hawkins fell and broke a collar bone one morning recently while entering his store loft. He will be laid up for five or six weeks.

G Benson left for St John s after cod oil shipments. William Freeman is confined at home with high blood pressure but shows some improvement.
Observers note seals continuing southward as herring stocks dwindle and sea ice recedes. The season shows many seals present, but food scarcity and advancing ice conditions push animals toward warmer waters.

The town offers condolences on the sudden death of Lydia, wife of Claude Jenkins of Durrell Twillin Gate, who died December 2 1940 after a paralytic stroke. Survived by her husband her aged mother and an adopter son. A loyal Bible class member and friend to many the community recalls her loving disposition and faithful church work.
At 2 o'clock Monday week Magistrate Abbott heard a case at the Court House between a sailmaker and a schooner owner over sail repairing. After evidence the court adjourned for judgment. The plaintiff was awarded judgment with costs to be paid by the defendant.
At the magistrates court two men pleaded guilty to breaches of the Dog Act 1938 and were fined $2. One young man charged by Sergt Beauchamp with disorderly conduct on the public street pleaded guilty and was fined $5 or seven days. The magistrate warned future cases of rowdyism would be dealt harshly.
The Honourable Commissioner for Finance speaks on January 8 urging sales of War Savings Certificates, noting about 6000 sold totaling $230,000. He cites flu delays but stresses daily war costs must be met, encourages small contributions and continued public support through certificates.
