B 29 Superforts Return From Japan Training Flight
The 65th squadron eight B 29s from Davis Monthan field returned to base at 7 45 a m Monday after a 30 day training flight to Japan for maneuvers with Far East command units. Four C 54s accompanied the group carrying maintenance gear. The planes departed Anchorage Alaska Sunday evening completing the final leg of the journey begun May 28.

Alleged Hot Rod Drivers Arrested After Reckless Driving
Police arrested Don Howell and Twyman Sydnor after a 1:15 a.m. chase on East Speedway. Howell, 25, bonded $25 with trial set July 17. Sydnor, 26, had a bench warrant and forfeited $25 after failing to appear. Officers Fearer and Nelson clocked 42 mph in a 25 mph zone and noted 54 feet of skid marks as Sydnor tried to pass Howell in a risky maneuver.

Children’s Reading Club Plans Awards
A summer reading club at the Carnegie Free Library runs July 1 to August 12 for fourth through eighth graders. Using the slogan Let’s Build, participants earn a brick for every five books read, with eight bricks triggering a library-purchased book for the children’s room, autographing rights, and diplomas for ten books from an approved list including at least five non fiction.
