National materials policy urged for US resource independence
A presidentially appointed commission proposed a multi billion dollar national materials policy centered in a single cabinet level agency. It urged market incentives for industry, cooperation with government, and user pays for environmental costs while expanding domestic fossil fuel use and recycling. The report envisions billions in incentives, loans, and tax credits to boost domestic resources and reduce imports.
