Sunny skies will grace most areas with hot weather persisting in the Southwest and Southeast. Cooler conditions are expected in the central and northern states. Showers are forecast for the Northeast as a broad weather system moves through.

Forecast shows sunny and very warm in Tucson and southeast Arizona with partly cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms tomorrow mainly in mountains. Phoenix area remains hot with highs near 113 and lows around 80. Northwest and southwest deserts also very hot with highs 105 to 115. Central basins mostly sunny with possible afternoon storms and highs 100 to 110. Grand Canyon and Mogollon Rim stay warm to hot with mixed sun and storms. Northeast Plateau and Little Colorado Valley expect continual warmth and scattered afternoon storms with highs 95 to 105.
In Porto Marghera near Venice a chlorine leak at a Montedison petrochemical plant sickened 13 workers and prompted a labor office order for 50 000 workers to wear gas masks on site. Doctors expect the 13 injured to recover in two to eight days. The company blamed a faulty pump and human error.
Police arrested two 13 year old boys for robbing a 9 year old girl at knifepoint and taking her to a housing project roof where she was sexually assaulted and pushed off. She died from the fall. Names of the minors and the victim were withheld.
In a remarkable escape at the Lowu border, farmer Yau Fun-lun sprinted 100 yards into Hong Kong, slipping past Chinese soldiers as thousands fled to safety. His bold dash is remembered by China guards as a notable event in the refugee exodus.
On Sunday Yau, visiting his sister from Hong Kong, sprinted 100 yards across a bridge into the British colony after his sister crossed. His sudden dash surprised both Hong Kong officials and PLA border guards, who noted his exceptional speed and compared him to Jesse Owens.
