About 2,700 of 5,700 construction workers refused to cross lines on Thursday and Friday, curtailing major construction at Merritt Island moonport. The strike, not sanctioned by IATSEU, targets McGregor-Werner on a wage dispute with pay rises of 79 cents to $1.29 hourly. Car Hits Rail Engine Injuring Two Airmen at Davis-Monthan
Two Davis Monthan airmen are hospitalized after their 1961 sedan struck a Southern Pacific switch engine on the 22nd Street mainline crossing. Walter Perkins Jr. and passenger Darnell Overton were trapped for 15 minutes and taken to St Mary’s Hospital. Overton suffered head injuries and fractures.
