Death by Self Inflicted Gunshot Found in South Side Home
A 47-year-old mechanic identified as John Stephen Stephenson was found dead Saturday in a fire scarred South Side home. Police say he apparently shot himself in the roof of the mouth with a .38 revolver late Friday night. Stephenson had been staying at Richard E. Edwards’s home on West Probasco Drive. Edwards found the body in a vacant adjacent house. Stephenson, who had threatened death by his own action, lived with his wife at San Juan Court. The scorched dwelling previously housed a waitress, Rita Anton, who died in a fire two weeks before her wedding. Stephenson’s body was moved to Reilly Funeral Home.
