Douglas Plant Faces Tax Costs in Tucson Growth Plans
L A Peifer of Douglas Aircraft in Tucson told Sertoma Club members that state sales tax remains a cost factor for bids on commercial airplane work, though not a decisive obstacle. He cited unclear tax rules on non federal jobs and noted the plant has grown from 83 employees in 1954 to 1,401 now, with some recent layoffs. The facility will continue flight testing and assembly work on several aircraft while examining future government and DCS program impacts.
