Starnas Pleads Innocent in Federal Tax Case
Tucson restaurateur James P. Starnas pleaded innocent to 12 counts of filing fraudulent excise tax returns. He appeared with attorney Thomas Chandler before Judge James A. Walsh as a trial date was to be set this week. The indictment accuses $70,000 in evaded taxes from 1960 to 1962, with reported due of $17,929.19 versus $87,275.33 claimed by the government. He is owner of Saddle & Sirloin Steak House at 2130 Miracle Mile Strip.
