Quit Beirut Evacuation Urged as British Convoys Depart
A U S embassy spokesman urged Americans to use British led convoys to leave Lebanon describing the move as an escalation of advisory but not a formal evacuation. About 1,900 Americans remain with 1,400 nationals and dependents. The first convoy with staff and coffins of Ambassador Meloy and Robert Waring departed Beirut escorted by Libyan Syrian troops and Palestinian guerrillas.

Mars Viking land site named Chryse valley as life search
NASA officials announced Viking will land in a Martian valley called Chryse about 20 degrees north of the equator near a four mile deep canyon. Scientists say the dried river bed could hold fossil life from 50 000 years ago when the river ran. The image released from JPL shows Mars from 425 000 miles away as approach from the southern winter region.
