Lt. Bland to be buried here Sunday in Tucson
Funeral services for Lt. Vernon N. Bland known as the mighty mite of University of Arizona football will be held at 4 p m Sunday at the Arizona mortuary chapel. Burial follows at Southlawn memorial park with Veterans of Foreign Wars extras. Bland died in action in France September 29 1944 at age 30.

Tempe State Hires Rickel As Piano Instructor
Harry Rickel, longtime head of the piano department at Tucson High and a Tucson piano teacher for eight years, is appointed instructor in piano at Tempe State College. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Arizona, studied with Richard Buhlig after 1939, and has headed Tucson summer piano teaching and local music groups while holding several honorary society memberships.

Texas Driver Killed In Crash With Truck
Wesley B. Thomas 42 of Pecos Texas died in a collision with a truck while driving along U S highway 60 ten miles east of Springerville Arizona. Rudolph A. Kruse 22 of Tolleson Arizona, the truck driver, was unhurt. The fatality marked the 141st Arizona traffic death this year, 40 more than last year.
